UK Trials Championships 2018

There hasn’t been a UK trials competition for 5 years so STFU London are doing something about it and hosting the UK trials championships in May.

May 25 @ 4:00 pm - May 28 @ 5:00 pm

The competition is to be hosted by STFU London over the late May Bank Holiday weekend. The Venue is Radical Bikes Trials & Jump Park in Essex. The weekend will include the main trials competition. You can also expect there to be lots of other riding-based activities, including speed trials, high jump, long jump and a variety of silly riding based games.

This will be a very relaxed and inclusive event. The trials course will be open for riding over the whole weekend except during competition times. After the main competition for the UK title, you will be free to move and adapt the course as you like (only the mobile parts. A lot of the course is heavy and permanent).

Camping for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night will be included in the ticket price. This includes the use of the on site toilets and showers. There will be a BBQ on the Saturday evening which is also included in the ticket price. There is a possibility of additional food & drink vans in attendance over the weekend.

A full weekend schedule will be released closer to the event.

Check out this video from a similar event at Radical bikes to give you an idea of what the weekend will be like.

EUC17 Summer Report

EUC17-GroupThe 2017 EUC (Extreme Unicycling Championship) Summer Edition was held in Hungary at the Factory Sport Arena for the third time. The goal of EUC17 Summer is to give the best event experience for it's participants while also showcasing the sport to the media.

As EUC17 Summer was a week-long event it allowed the riders more time to enjoy the event.  There was a wide variety of fun competitions:

Rolling-wrap Sprint / Prelims, plus 1on 1 battles where riders had to reach a finish line as quickly as possible, doing only rolling wraps.

Slow race / Prelims, plus 1 on 1 battles where riders had to ride a line as slowly as possible.

Uni-sumo / 1 on 1 battles where riders had to push their opponents from a circle without dismounting.

Dizzy slalom / Riders had to race an easy obstacle course with jumps and skinny riding. Before each rider could attempt the course they had to drink a glass of beer (or coke if under 18) and complete 5 spins/rotations.

Coasting competition / Longest distance coast won.

4x Unicycling / 4 riders starts in one heat where they have to ride an easy obstacle course with sharp turns and narrow sections in the fastest time possible.

Auth-The-Game / Same rules as Out-The-Game, in the name of Kornél Auth (pronounced the same as OUT).

Foam-Pit Best Trick / Riders had to perform their best (party) trick into the foam-pit. Judges were using large scorecards to gain more of a show-feeling.

These fun competitions gave a good opportunity to bring all the participants together and a great opportunity for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders to take part.

The official competitions started on Friday, with the High Jump and Flatland preliminaries. On the Saturday there was the Trials prelims. Although due to the unfortunate weather conditions (heavy rain) they had to cancel the Trials finals. The Flatland final in the city center was a big success with a lot of spectators and a nice atmosphere. On Sunday they had the Street competitions and the Award Ceremony.

Terry UniGeezer Peterson in the Fargo Hill Climb

Mr Unigeezer has been doing impressive things on unicycles again check out this video and little write up about the Fargo Hill Climb.

Terry UniGeezer Peterson:

It had been two years since entering my first ever Fargo hill climb event, and fresh on the heels of my epic 114 mile 36er ride just two weeks ago, I returned for the annual event, on 3/24/13, in an attempt to successfully climb the massive 32% grade monster hill again. As it turns out, I had/have a fractured rib, sustained as a result of a drop while riding MUni last week. Up until yesterday I wasn’t sure if I would be physically able to even attempt the climb, but the pain was all but gone this morning so I decided to go for it!

I ended up doing THREE climbs, with the first two counting as official. Although I finished the third climb, I momentarily dismounted to avoid a collision with bike. The first two climbs were done earlier before the hill got overly congested with participants. While everyone else (on bikes) had the benefit of super low gearing, I had to climb in pure 1:1 in addition to maintaining balance in every direction, on such a wall-like incline! By the time I was halfway up, I was well past my Vo2MAx, and every pedal stroke took monumental effort. It was, without exception, the most physically tortuous thing I have ever done on a unicycle--or on anything for that matter!

It was confirmed again by the organizers, that I’m still the first and only person to successfully climb this monster hill on a unicycle in the event's 30+ year history! I’m pretty proud of that.

So this makes 4 official climbs; two for this event and two at the 2011 event. Plus three more training rides made to the top. This video includes *both* climbs and both descents, plus a couple of fun interviews. The guy who filmed the second climb held the camera steadier and is a better depiction of the steepness. Hope you enjoy.
