600km unicycle ride to raise money for Sands

Yoshe Watson

Yoshe Watson is a 19 year old music student and is setting off on the 4th September to ride the 600km from Amsterdam to Paris on a unicycle.   She is raising money for Sands, a stillbirth and neonatal charity.

Money raised for Sands is used in 3 main ways: to work to reduce the number of stillbirths and neonatal deaths through research, to provide support for those affected by the death of a baby, and to provide information for professionals caring for bereaved families.  17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after death every day in the UK, and Sands are working to reduce this figure.
Sands has been a charity close to my heart since they supported myself and my family after my baby sister, Hope, was stillborn in 2008. Training for this trip has been the biggest challenge I have ever set myself, but the thought of raising money for this fantastic charity has continually motivated me.

The idea for this trip actually originated in the pub, where I thought it would be fun to go travelling on a unicycle. I woke up the next morning, still liked the idea, and started looking for unicycles to buy! I first rode a unicycle in April 2013, and began training for this trip a month later. I am still training every day, and my progress can be followed at www.justgiving.com/yoshe. I feel a little nervous for this trip, as it seems likely that unexpected obstacles will arise, and the distance will become tiring, but above all I am really excited for the challenge.

As well as individual sponsors, if any businesses would like to sponsor this trip and donate to Sands, their name will be featured on the official fundraising website and printed on t-shirts which I will wear throughout the trip. For more information, please email [email protected].

Donations can be made through www.justgiving.com/yoshe, or by texting YOSH93 to 70070.
