BBC Media City Ride

On a cold and rainy 4th December 5 brave unicyclists ventured to the new BBC media city in salford.

It turns out that there are a lot of choices of where to ride there, and how much you want to do.

We ended up having fun with a bit of trials and flatland, and got very wet and cold!

One Wheeled Santa

On Sunday 2nd December a 5k "Santa Dash" fun run was held in the centre of Liverpool.

Five unicyclists took part Julian, Claire, Steve, Ed and Oli, but we were slightly outnumbered by the running/walking Santas.

The two youngsters Oli and Ed performed exceedingly well. We started at the back, out of everyone's way but steadily weaved our way up the field.

Everyone made us very welcome with hardly any of the usual remarks. A good day, it was a shame we couldn't go round again! Whens next year's event.

UDC Riders Hit Gisburn Forest... Again.

Twelve Unicyclists took Gisburn Forest by storm (Julian P, Julian B, Alex, Jack, Felix, Earle, James, Bobby, Edz, Sam, Stu and Steve, with Pete and Mike on bikes).

With four rides in the 8 weeks, the North West Unicycling group is going from strength to strength -with the support of a quartet of Yorkshiremen).

With bright sunshine and blue sky's booked well in advance, we completed the blue trail with dips into the red. Gisburn Forest is a great place to unicycle, they are constantly upgrading the rides. The mountain bike riders are always friendly. Parking is free but it can get busy. There are no facilities so bring you own food.

There were two notable unicycle sculptures -one with seven unicycles balancing on a pole and another with them balancing under a bridge. There were a few good falls - Julian Barrow's diving picture has been posted to UDC's facebook.

North West Unicyclists Ride - Delamere Forest

On Saturday 6th October 9 unicyclists from the north west visited Delamere Forest. On a brilliant sunny day we met up at the visitors centre, Mike Wakefield brought his 3 kids and Kane -it was Kane's first MUNI ride and his 12th Birthday.

Mike had the choice between fitting a toilet or bringing his kids, his son Will had the choice of playing in a tennis tournament or riding. Guess what they chose.

It was also Peter's first ride with us. We headed along the trails round the big lake, to the mountain bike section. Lots of fun was had on the downhill section. Then back to the visitors centre for sausage baguettes - a must for every visit.

The kids were amazing especially first time Kane and little Sam. Unfortunately most had to leave but JL, Julian and Rob made it up to the viewing point.

Delamere forest is an excellent spot for riding, plenty of easy trails -with the delights of the mountain bike area.

Newborough Forest on Anglesey

Newborough Forest on Anglesey a good place for a ride. UDC sponsored riders Julian and Rob have ridden there many times there are lots of easy trails, with great views over the Menai Straits and Snowdon.

It costs £3 to enter Newborough forest by road that leads tothe main car park, but free if you park near Malltraeth and ride in.

Question: Whats long and thin and causes Rob to fall over when it gets trapped in a wheel?

UDC Riders Hit Gisburn forest

Julian & Matt rode around Gisburn forest, near Clitheroe today.

Matt had fun on the red routes but injured his ankle -hence the picture of him walking -notice the limp.

Julian was fine on the Blue route -with no injury. There have been some recent improvements to the trails especially the North-shore and last banked sections -made it down all the way for the first time. :-)

Worth another visit...

Carsington Water Ride - 4th September 2012

Our Sponsored Riders, Julian Page and Robert Day, have been out again riding round Carsington Water in Derbyshire.

Its a 2 mile long Reservoir between Ashbourne and Matlock. The trail is about eight and a half miles long, with a good surface.

It "undulates" with some gentle hills and ends up crossing the dam. There is a visitors centre with cafe and toilets -but its "pay and display".

Next to the centre is an island with a stone park -that is worth a cycle round. The car park to the North near Sheepwash is free.

Julian and Matthew's Ride around 3 reservoirs 1st July 2012

Our Sponsored riders Julian and Matthew have been out and about on a MUni ride in North Bolton. Here are some picture from their day. Looking good guys, keep up the good work!

The recent wind had knocked down some tree's requiring a scramble to get past.

Julian Page on his 3 year old Nimbus 26" (think it needs a disk)

Matthew started this one from a lot higher, you can see the skid marks. He ended up on the turf, smiling

Our very own Paul stacey did the greatest distance at 236k! Well done Paul! What a machine!

Everyone had fun and people even made the effort to dress up for the occasion

Not even the pouring rain put people off..

UDC Riders unicycle around Caernarfon

On the May Bank Holiday Weekend,  Rob Day and I completed a short ride, 6 mile around Caernarfon. It was a brilliant evening, out from the town via the railway trail. Cutting across to the coast through Llanfaglan, then back along the road, next to the Menai Straight, to the castle. Rob on his upgraded unicycle with its new disk brake. I had a try and it's SMOOTH, not clunky at all. I want one!

Julian

View of the sun going down over the Menai Straight, notice Rob's "smooth" disk brake

The Coast road West of Caernarfon is beautiful and flat. Robs unicycle wheel has mysteriously shrunk!

Back at the Castle after a good ride.
