UDC Riders unicycle around Caernarfon

On the May Bank Holiday Weekend,  Rob Day and I completed a short ride, 6 mile around Caernarfon. It was a brilliant evening, out from the town via the railway trail. Cutting across to the coast through Llanfaglan, then back along the road, next to the Menai Straight, to the castle. Rob on his upgraded unicycle with its new disk brake. I had a try and it's SMOOTH, not clunky at all. I want one!

View of the sun going down over the Menai Straight, notice Rob's "smooth" disk brake

The Coast road West of Caernarfon is beautiful and flat. Robs unicycle wheel has mysteriously shrunk!

Back at the Castle after a good ride.

Small Unicycle?

One of the most frequently asked questions here at unicycle.com is "how old do you have to be to start riding a unicycle"?. Well look at this unicycle we have "customized". It is a special build for a four year old! We took a 12" Hoppley unicycle and cut down the frame and seatpost to make it the right size to accommodate a 14" (35cm) inside leg length.

Mark Stockton this is your Unicycle!

Well seen as Mark now has his birthday present I can post it up on the blog and not spoil the suprise. Its a custom built Club Freestyle that we put together for Mark after he went though the entire UDC website and picked out every part himself!

[caption id="attachment_1098" align="alignnone" width="525" caption=" "] [/caption]

What we've done is taken a standard 20" Club Freestyle Unicycle - Black with White Tyre and we replaced the White Kikzumbut Tyre with a Blue Qu-Ax Freestyle Tyre. The next bit was more complicated as we had to take apart the standard Club wheel. We replaced the spokes with black Kris Holm spokes and the stainless steel nipples with Anodized Blue ones.

[caption id="attachment_1099" align="alignnone" width="525" caption=" "] [/caption]

Then we ditched the standard black quick release clamp for a Nimbus Doublebolt Clamp in blue to match the rest of the unicycle. Finnished off with a pair of Gusset PCP Pedals and we have one very nice looking unicycle.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="540" caption=" "] [/caption]

I thought that was a good idea so...

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="504" caption=" "] [/caption]

But Rach wouldnt share the stand so a fight broke out..  a wheel walking fight!

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="540" caption=" "] [/caption]

Rach won so I went to play on the test track on some werid things with two wheels..

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="504" caption=" "] [/caption]

I came back to Rach sharing the stand with Roger..  Oh! I wasnt amused..

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="540" caption=" "] [/caption]

So I went on the London Eye..

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="504" caption=" "] [/caption]

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="540" caption=" "] [/caption]

But the "Old Bill" turned up and slapped the cuffs on Rach for stealing their bike.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="504" caption=" "] [/caption]

When the Police let Rach go the UDC team were reunited and we finished the London Cycle show..

THE END.

For the rest of the story have a look at the photo album on Facebook.

Retro Unicycles, get new photos.

As most of you know the UDC website is fairly new, so all the products need new photos and new descriptions. As I was working though the products today I came across a couple of "retro" unicycles that we still have in stock. I've taken new photos of both of them and got them up on the site. Check out the Schwinn!

Staff Unicycles 'Part9'

Today we have a unicycle that clams the title of the most expensive out of the Staff Unicycles, because it's Rogers Titanium Trials (Show Off). Let's start with the saddle. It's a Kris Holm Street saddle that's had the base removed and replaced with a Carbon fiber seat base. It looks really cool and is obviously very light. All this together with a long neck frame, really short seatpost and a single bolt clamp, it really is incredibly lightweight.

[caption id="attachment_953" align="alignnone" width="531" caption=" "] [/caption]

The frame its self is a Nimbus Titanium Trials frame, which is the same design as the old Nimbus X only wider to accommodate the trials wheel. Continuing on the weight saving the wheel is a Kris Holm Trials Wheel with a Kris Holm Titanium hub, and just to be that little bit different Roger has built the wheel with stainless steel spokes and blue anodized nipples.

[caption id="attachment_954" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

As with most trials it has a Maxxis Creepy-Crawler tyre which is soon to be replaced with our new Blizard Tyre. It has got Lightweight Nimbus 125mm cranks and plastic DX Pedals to complete this extremely lightweight trials machine.

[caption id="attachment_955" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

Staff Unicycles 'Part8'

Yes it's another Eclipse but it's the last one and today its Rogers, and compared to mine and Rachael's its looks like the "Evil Eclipse" with the Black frame and gold highlights. Well up top we have the latest Nimbus Gel saddle with the black cover and white handles, bolted to a 200 x 25.4mm Nimbus Aluminium Seatpost.

[caption id="attachment_905" align="alignnone" width="531" caption=" "] [/caption]

Then we have the special fit doublebolt clamp these clamps are slightly larger than the normal doublebolts to accommodate the frames, the frame its self is a one off black anodized frame which started life as a standard 300mm Eclipse Frame.

[caption id="attachment_906" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

Next wheel is a Gusset BlackDog Rim with 181mm Black 13g Spokes and anodized gold spoke nipples, all connected to a Eclipse Hub and wrapped in a Kenda Kikzumbut 20"  x 1.95" Tyre in white. For the cranks Roger as gone for Nimbus Venture 100mm in Silver that comes on the standard Eclipse with oddly our new Nimbus Studded pedals (I have these on my Muni).

[caption id="attachment_907" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

Staff Unicycles 'Part7'

Here we have Rachael's Nimbus Eclipse as I promised. The spec of Rach's is pretty much the same as mine but she's gone in a little bit of a different direction with the powder coating! Very Sparkly!

[caption id="attachment_868" align="alignnone" width="531" caption=" "] [/caption]

The saddle is another prototype from Taiwan and with Rach being a bit of a sparkle freak before it was out of the box she had claimed it!! With the saddle be extremely unique the unicycle was designed around the saddle

[caption id="attachment_869" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

The frame is a 400mm Eclipse frame which has been powder coated in sparkly silver and the rim to match. Then the hub as been done in sparkly blue to match the middle of the seat. The wheel was built with blue nipples and black spokes to continue the theme, and then finished off we've got some 100mm Qu-Ax Lightweight cranks and some White Plastic pedals.

[caption id="attachment_870" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

All in all a pretty awesome "Girly" looking unicycle don't you think?

[caption id="attachment_871" align="alignnone" width="560" caption=" "] [/caption]

Staff Unicycles 'Part6'

Well its another one of mine, and I must admit my favorite, my 20" Nimbus Eclipse! Well we'll start at the top as normal firstly the saddle is a Nimbus Prototype Gel so sadly its the one of its kind, white squares and black vinyl sides. Thats connected to a Nimbus Aluminum seatpost thats been cut down so its only about inch into the frame. Next I've got an Eclipse 300mm frame thats been stripped of the gold anodizing and powder coated brilliant white.

[caption id="attachment_855" align="alignnone" width="531" caption="To match the frame the Eclipse gold hub and been powder coated the same white, I'm not a fan of the Eclipse gold. The wheel is a Gusset black dog rim with 181mm Black spokes with stainless steel nipples (like Kris Holm wheels).  We have some 110mm Kris Holm Moment cranks for going fast when I'm playing hockey and some black Gusset PCP Pedals. Tyre is a Kenda Kikzumbut 20" x 1.95" in white so it only gets used inside. "] [/caption]

And just to finish off some black and white Gusset stickers and black and white cross dust cap to match the rim and the rest of the white and black theme. Next unicycle we'll be looking at is Rachael's Eclipse which is a little more "Girly" than mine.

Staff Unicycles 'Part5'

Well it's another one of my unicycles today, my 'raw' 24" Kris Holm unicycle, its raw because the frame comes from our US franchise and is un-finished it's just the aluminum clear coated. So at the top we have a 2007 Kris Holm Freeride saddle in black thats on a Black Nimbus aluminum seatpost which I've had to cut down cause I'm short.

[caption id="attachment_796" align="alignnone" width="531" caption="Obviously the frame is your normal Kris Holm 24" but it's not the normal and boring blue that you all know its RAW aluminum clear coated scratches and all. The Wheel is a Nimbus Muni wheel and I've put a 2.6" tire on instead of the 3" that comes on both the Kris Holm and the Nimbus unicycles so I can go that bit faster. "] [/caption]

Cranks were lifted straight off my trials and are Kris Holm 137mm for extra speed, there just bit interesting when you're coming down hills. Pedals to save weight I've gone for the new Nimbus Studded pedals, they grip really well like a metal pedal but weigh less than half of your usual metal pedals.

And that about it really I'm thinking about putting Magura HS33 on it later on so I can keep control coming down hills and even though the frame is really nice its little boring for me so I'm looking into having some plating done (Copper or Gold) but we'll see.
