Ride the Lights Blackpool 2013

Yet again Ride the Lights Blackpool 2013 was a fantastic success. On the Tuesday after the bank holiday weekend, Blackpool Promenade is closed to motor traffic from 7 to 10pm and reserved for cyclists. The famous Blackpool illuminations are turned on before their official opening. There must have been over 10,000 bikes so it was busy, busy, busy. We had over 30 unicyclists, most from the facebook group "Unicycle North West", Pete and JL from Blackpool did the local organising -many thanks to them.

We all met at the Southern end of the prom at Star Gate

Unicycle.com sponsored riders, in their UDC hoddies participated: Julian and Claire Page, Matt Morris and JL Coldham.

At the start it was packed with wall to wall bikes

We had a break at the tower and received the attention of the local Granada News

With a strong headwind we battled to the north end and filled up with chips, before being blown back to the start, it was about 12 miles round trip in 3 hours. Its is a wonderful experience, with it going dark, the sunset and the illuminations. Don't miss next year, I won't !!

Bobbie and Morgan in the Circus!

Bobbie and Morgan from blackpool are two amazing young riders.

They have been taking part in Blackpool's yearly magic and circus festival called showzam held at numerous different locations in Blackpool. Bobbie and Morgan met them all last year at Gerry cottles WOW show and followed them since. Over the last ten days they have seen every show and joined in every workshop they ran.

As a treat they were trained up to join in the last three shows of the circus of showzam. That was 27 performances 20 circus workshops!!

Blackpool Ride the Lights - 2012

Last Tuesday around 23 unicyclists met at the start of the Blackpool Promenade, all ages and abilities, with the youngest rider only 6!

The ride had been spread through Facebook and UUU by Pete, everyone had a great time and met someone new, a great turnout was from the students at Blackpool circus school.
