BMW Coed y Brenin 2022

Riding

Coed y Brenin BMW was based around everyone staying at the Cae Gwen Farm campsite. Riders mostly turn up on Friday evening, although some riders arrived earlier so of course they headed for the trails to test them out!

We have used the campsite at Cae Gwen farm for many years. They allow us to camp together in a small field next to an open barn (specially built for the campers). A small fire is set for the evening and everyone just relaxes and catches up. During the day the campsite has some amazing views, but at night your breath is taken away by the most amazing skies. With so little light pollution the sky is white with stars. Although the clear skys caused us a little problem... We had been expecting 6 degrees minimum temperature over night, but the hard frost in the morning told a different story - we all had a very cold night.

We travelled to the trail centre together and did part of the blue/red run before lunch back at the trail centre

and we had a little visitor joining us for lunch.

The afternoon riding split the group by ability with the more experienced riders riding the red/black runs. Total distance for day 1 was 19km... which does not sound much but on the trails, it seemed a good ride.

The evening meal was fun! Everyone contributed something to a mass cook in the camping barn. The menu included 2 curries and chilli... all amazingly good!

The group again split on the Sunday with the experienced riders taking on the red/black route of the Dragon's Teeth, which at 23km+ was both challenging and fun.

It is safe to say that the weekend was a success with everyone asking when the next event. Luckily there is not that long to wait. There will be a BMW in Buttermere the Lake District 18th-20th November 2022 using the fantastic Whinlatter trail centre. As it will be getting cooler there has been accommadation organised in a private hut in Buttermere valley. Food will be provided, so all you need to bring is your riding and sleeping gear.  If you are interested in coming along you can find more details on the BMW website.
